Pennsylvanians will have more health insurance options in 2024, according to the Individual and Small Group Affordable Care Act (ACA) of 2024, announced Thursday by the Pennsylvania Department of Insurance.
Increasing competition in the market, lower interest rate hikes than last year, and below the rate of health care inflation are among the reasons for the increase in options.
“Pennsylvanians want access to affordable, comprehensive, ACA-compliant health insurance.”Pennsylvania Insurance Commissioner Mike Humphries said in a statement. “The Shapiro Administration is dedicated to the health, well-being and financial security of all Pennsylvanians, and we are committed to ensuring consumers have affordable options for obtaining insurance.”
Highmark is expanding into five new counties (Montgomery, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, and Philadelphia), and Geisinger is expanding its individual and small group services to Bedford County. This will increase consumer choice. As Pennsylvania welcomes another new entrant to the Southeastern market, Jefferson Health Plans, consumers in Montgomery, Bucks, and Philadelphia counties will be worried about health insurance companies offering coverage in the individual market. This is the sixth year that competition has been fierce in Pennsylvania. State residents will also have new options for dental plans, including a new standalone dental plan available in Pennsylvania’s 59 counties underwritten by UnitedHealthcare. Pennsylvania residents can find quality health plans at the lowest cost through Penny, the state’s official health insurance marketplace. Penny will reduce premiums and medical costs, allowing 9 out of 10 of his current enrollees to qualify.
