Former Vice President Mike Pence said Sunday he doesn’t know whether he will get a booster shot of a newly approved coronavirus vaccine, but urged other Americans to at least consider it.
When asked if he planned to get vaccinated, Pence said, “As a family, we haven’t made a decision yet.” Sunday CNN interview. “I think every family should make that decision.”
The FDA last week approved additional COVID-19 booster shots specifically to combat new strains of the virus. Coronavirus cases are rising across the country, raising concerns about a new wave of winter illnesses.
Pence used the opportunity to highlight the accomplishments of the Trump administration, but also criticized President Biden over his handling of the pandemic.
“Let me be clear: I am incredibly proud of what the American people accomplished during the worst pandemic in 100 years. “The fact that we developed a free, safe and effective vaccine was a medical miracle.”
“But Joe Biden made a mistake in mandating these vaccines, and I think that’s one of the reasons why vaccines have been overtaken and become a political football,” he continued.
Pfizer and Moderna have both released their latest boosters.
The Food and Drug Administration is recommending that all Americans six months of age and older get the new vaccine, which will be distributed to pharmacies across the country this week.
A poll last week found about half of Americans are interested in the new booster shot.
