Currently, there is a continuing shortage of over-the-counter and prescription drugs.
This includes over-the-counter drugs such as Tylenol and Motrin.
The shortage is largely due to increased demand following the fall, which saw a surge in respiratory diseases such as influenza, RSV and COVID-19.
“Unfortunately, Tylenol for children has been unavailable for about three or four weeks,” said pharmacist Prashant Koyani.
Shortages also include prescription drugs such as the ADHD drug Adderall and the antibiotic amoxicillin.
Some of the prescription drug shortages are due to manufacturing delays. It’s affecting people in San Diego and across the country.
San Diegan Alberta Cumplido struggles to find the daily medicines that are important to her health.
“I am a living kidney donor recipient and need a very important rejection drug. I have to take it every day and there are no gaps,” Kumprid said.
Cumplido plans to work with doctors and local pharmacies to ensure an adequate supply of medicine.
“The new plan that Prashant and I have made, can we call the UCSD doctor and change the medication? Is there anything else I can take? What can I do? “No pharmacy will have the drug until February — if it comes in,” Cumplido said.
