Ohio University’s Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine receives a $700,000 gift in honor of osteopathic manipulative therapy pioneer Robert C. Fulford.
according to university news releaseFulford’s son, Richard Fulford, donated to the school in honor of his father’s innovative work in the field of osteopathy.
Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Fulford focused his career on alternative medicine, including manual therapy and cranial osteopathy. During his career, Fulford has authored three of his books, and OU Heritage has become close with students and faculty at his college, sharing some of his findings.
In addition to the significant donation, an endowment fund was opened in Fulford’s name to support the Heritage College’s Osteopathic Manipulative Therapy Program. Also, at Richard Fulford’s will, his $300,000 endowment will be created for further programs within the university.
According to the release, the $1 million donation will be the largest ever received by Heritage College.
To honor Fulford’s legacy, the Heritage Hall Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine Lab will be named Robert C. Fulford DO, Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine Lab.
“Richard Fulford’s incredible generosity allows us to further integrate osteopathic manipulative therapy into the entire educational continuum, training at the Robert C. Fulford, DO, Osteopathic Manipulative Lab. All students will graduate with the knowledge and skills to professionally address neuromusculoskeletal disorders and care for the patient as a whole,” said Executive Dean of the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine. , OU Chief Medical Officer Ken Johnson said in a release.
