Studies have shown that memory declines as we age, but researchers in Oklahoma are testing how a simple supplement can change that. >> Download the KOCO 5 App A clinical trial at the OU School of Medicine’s Transitional Geosciences Laboratory shows how blood flow affects memory in older Oklahomans and whether adding vitamin B supplements helps. I’m testing whether. “Our hypothesis is that the supplements we are testing improve blood flow in the brain,” said Peter Mukuri, assistant professor of neurosurgery at the university. Participants will be given either a placebo or the real thing for two months. “Researchers plan to test whether vitamins improve memory through brain games. To do this, participants will play a computer game while wearing something like a swimming cap and play a series of letters. But the levels get more difficult. The most difficult part is that you have to click the left mouse button if it is the same as the two previous letters. ” Mukuri said. Their research shows that memory loss is correlated with decreased blood flow to the brain, which suggests something is wrong. “This simply involves putting on a special cap and measuring how blood flow changes while a person is playing these memory games,” says Andriy Yabru, director of Translational. “Our hypothesis is that the supplements we are currently testing will improve blood flow in the brain,” said Peter Mukuri, assistant professor of neurosurgery at the university.

Participants will be given either a placebo or the real thing over a two-month period. Researchers plan to test whether vitamins improve memory through brain games.

To do this, participants wear something like a swimming cap and play a computer game that tests how well they can remember a series of letters. But the levels will get harder.

“The most difficult part is that you have to click the left mouse button if it’s the same letter that appeared two letters ago,” Mukuri said.

Their research shows that memory loss correlates with reduced blood flow to the brain, and vitamins can help with that.
