Statewide — Health Secretary Jim Donnellon is reminding Louisiana residents that universal health insurance enrollment begins November 1, 2023 and continues through January 15, 2024. During this period, families can explore their options and select a plan through the Health Insurance Marketplace.
Rate filings for plans on the Health Insurance Marketplace show an average rate increase of 1.3% in the individual market and 8.3% in the small group market, the agency reports.
According to the Louisiana Department of Insurance, health insurers offering individual marketplace plans in 2024 include Ambetter Health of Louisiana, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana, Christus Health Plan, and United Health. Care Insurance Company.
“Open enrollment is a time to take action and make informed decisions about your health care needs,” Secretary Donnellon said. “We encourage families to do some research and talk to an agent before making a decision.”
The Louisiana Department of Insurance offers the following tips regarding open enrollment.
- Check your options. Plans and premiums may change each year. Make sure your doctor or health care provider is in your chosen plan’s network.
- meet deadlines. If you enroll in the plan by January 15th, your coverage will begin February 1st, 2024. If you do not elect coverage by January 15, you will not receive health coverage unless you qualify for a special enrollment period because: Qualified life change.
- Contact an agent. A licensed health insurance agent can help you understand your options, answer your questions, and determine whether you qualify for premium tax credits.
