Gulf State residents also reported the second-highest per-prescription payments in the nation.
Massachusetts residents pay the second highest medical bills in the nation, according to a new survey.
analysis came from Nice Rxis a company that provides people with prescription drugs for a set monthly fee.
The company determined that Massachusetts residents pay $10,559 per person per year in medical expenses. This is second only to Alaska, where residents are paying him $11,064 per person.
Despite recent legislation aimed at reducing health care costs, research shows that a family of four in Massachusetts has an average health insurance premium of $22,000.
Costs for Alaskans are very high, according to NiceRx, due to Alaska’s small population and isolation from the rest of the country. This limits competition among healthcare providers and increases costs.
Delaware ranked third on the list with an average annual per capita medical cost of $10,254. NiceRx said this was due to a lack of competition due to the consolidation of hospitals and healthcare systems in the state.
Utah is the cheapest state to pay for health care, with residents paying an average of $5,982.
The study also looked at how much people in each state are paying specifically for prescription drugs. Massachusetts also ranked him second on that list. NiceRx found that Bay State residents pay an average of $268.21 per prescription.
Rhode Island tops the list, with residents paying an average of $288.37 per prescription. Maine residents paid the lowest per prescription in the nation, averaging $22.39 per prescription.
