New research has identified common supplements that may increase longevity.
Omega-3, a “healthy fat” that helps improve brain and heart health, has been found to slow down biological aging as well.
Swiss researchers studied 777 participants between the ages of 70 and 85 in a randomized clinical trial called DO-Health over a three-year period.

Participants took daily omega-3 (1 gram) supplements, took daily vitamin D supplements (2,000 IU), and participated in a home exercise program.

When measuring biological aging in an individual at the end of the trial, the researchers found that omega-3 alone slowed down biological aging markers.
This study, published in the Nature Journal, reduced 3-4 months of rejuvenation in biological aging, a 61% reduction in cancer risk, and a 39% reduction in previous phrati risk (risk conditions preceded by frail or weakness) by 39%.

The effect was stronger when omega-3 supplementation combined daily vitamin D with at least 30 minutes of simple strength training three times a week, according to the researchers.
The study by co-author Heike Bischoff-Ferrari, University of Basel, Switzerland, shared the impact of clinical trials.

“Do-Health is the largest clinical trial to date, showing that it can rejuvenate biological aging in humans over the age of 70. This is a simple strategy,” he told Fox News Digital.
“Like in the same trials, interventions reduced risk of cancer and early infirmity. This is related to public health efforts.”

The professor said the findings support “safe and effective” daily algae-based omega-3 supplies.
