Gedling Borough Council has announced the opening of a newly refurbished fitness studio at Carlton Forum Leisure Centre.
The studio opened on Tuesday, April 2, with three-time Olympian Andy Turner in attendance. Turner, from Nottinghamshire, has excelled in the 110m hurdles, finishing fourth in the semi-finals at the 2012 London Games.
The new studio, officially a squash court, had been used as additional gym space for customers since 2020. Due to the popularity of this additional area, it was decided to renovate the squash court into a dedicated fitness studio.
The project was part-funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, with the council receiving £14,406 in refurbishment funding.
The new fitness studio, located next to the remaining squash courts, has been named DOSE Studio. DOSE stands for dopamine, oxytocin, serotonin, and endorphins. These are all “feel good” chemicals that are released into the brain during exercise. These positive chemicals can help reduce anxiety, improve mood, and boost your body’s immune system.
The upgraded studio benefits from LED ambient lighting, new flooring and updated decor, giving the studio a modern look. He must be at least 16 years old to use the studio, which is equipped with a variety of equipment such as rowers, ski ergs, and kettlebells.
As part of this studio upgrade, one of the most important additions to the studio at Carlton Forum Leisure Center is MyZone. MyZone is a type of wearable fitness technology that allows users to track their health and fitness during exercise by monitoring heart rate. Users can participate in challenges and see real-time fitness tracking results on the studio TV screen or on the MyZone app.
Councilor Henry Wheeler, Portfolio Holder for Lifestyle, Health and Wellbeing, said:
“The investment in our leisure facilities is exciting and plays a vital role in helping residents improve their health by being active and social in their local communities. Thanks to our success in receiving part-funding from the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund, residents will now have access to this much-improved fitness studio alongside the main gym at Carlton Forum Leisure Center. I did.
With the addition of MyZone, we hope to foster a sense of community where users of this wearable fitness technology can compete and encourage each other in a friendly manner while working toward the same goal of improving their health. ”
