Researchers at Tufts University have found that diets across the planet today are just as healthy as they were 30 years ago.
The team ranked the various dietary items on a scale of 0 to 100. 0 means the least nutritious or junk food, 100 means a completely healthy diet with all ingredients.
The average score in 2018 was 40.3, 1.5 points higher than in 1990. Meanwhile, healthy options have become popular in some countries such as the United States, China and Iran, while people’s diets have become unhealthy in countries such as Japan and Nigeria. People in the Americas had unhealthy diets, but people in South Asia had the best eating habits.
Today, only 10 countries in the world scored above 50.
In this day and age, people are consuming more vegetables and dried fruits, while eating more red meat and consuming sugary drinks and salt.
