Cibolo School said Kens 5 had a “confirmation of the measles incident” early in the afternoon. The state says it hasn’t heard of it.
THIBORO, Texas — The Texas Department of Health says there are no confirmed cases of measles in the San Antonio area, contrary to a spokesman for Traditional Schools 5 for the San Antonio area.
The school has not answered Kens 5 follow-up questions on Thursday evening. The spokesman said in a statement that the school was open Friday and “full disinfection of the campus.”
“There are no confirmed cases in that area,” a DSHS official said in an email. “Just because someone is being tested for measles doesn’t mean they have measles. There are many different diseases that cause rashes and I want them to think about measles.
How a case of measles is reported to DSH depends on where the staff or student members who may be diagnosed live. If they are resident in Bexar County, confirmed cases will be first reported to MetroHealth. If they live in Guadalupe County, the school would be burdened with reporting directly to the state, DSHS said.
As of Friday, the Texas Department of State Health Department had reported 124 cases of measles, primarily in the South Plains area of West Texas. Health officials say most of them affected unvaccinated children, but five people who were vaccinated were among the incident.
