A client who met the prescription at Walgreens last November was able to regain money through a $100 million class action settlement.
The lawsuit allegedly overcharged customers that Walgreens insured for prescription drugs and did not respect discounts from the now-deprecated prescription savings club. Customers who purchase prescription drugs between January 1, 2007 and November 18, 2024 will be able to use the settlement payment; File requests by April 17th To get back the money. The amount of payment is proportional to how much each person has spent, but individual claimants can receive up to $5,000.
Third-party payers can also file claims. Multiple union benefits providers joined individuals when individuals filed class actions.

Under the Prescription Savings Club, customers were offered hundreds of common prescription discounts, available for just $5 for a 30-day supply.
However, the lawsuit, Russo et al. v. WalgreenCo. cites examples of customers pay far more, and sometimes doubles what should be billed. The plaintiff, who paid more than 20 prescriptions at Walgreens locations in New York and Massachusetts, said he was charged nearly $188 for a drug that would have cost $127 under the conditions of the Prescription Savings Club. A Texas customer paid nearly $419 for a drug that was supposed to cost $204.
The total settlement amount was approved in advance by the federal court, but will be subject to a fair hearing on September 10th. Walgreens did not admit fraud under the terms of the settlement.

Walgreens has individually said it plans to close around 1,200 locations over the next three years.
