PEORIA, IL (WMBD) — OSF HealthCare and US HealthVest announced that a new mental health hospital is coming to the Peoria area.

According to an OSF press release, the new hospital’s application for the required certification has been approved by the Illinois Medical Facilities and Services Review Board.

OSF has announced plans to build the 100-bed Meadowview Behavioral Hospital on USF-owned land on Highway 91.

“We are excited to move forward with the construction of the largest behavioral health hospital south of Chicago and the ninth largest in Illinois,” said Michael Cruz, MD, Chief Operating Officer of OSF Healthcare. “To make this much-needed facility a reality, we are committed to working with the communities we serve and State Senators Dave Koehler and Jill Tracy, Congressman Jehan Gordon Booth, and Peoria Mayor Rita. We appreciate the support from elected officials, including Ali and others.”

The new hospital will help expand access to mental health care for residents of central Illinois. The hospital is open to him 24/7 and has a crisis management center that provides free assessments.

Richard Kresch, M.D., Ph.D., CEO and founder of US HealthVest, said: “This new facility will enable us to provide highly personalized and compassionate care and services within our community.”

OSF and HealthVest have invested nearly $35 million in the project, according to a press release. The new hospital is expected to open by late 2025.
