ROCHESTER, Minnesota — The Mayo Clinic continued this week to express its belief that the future of medicine will harness both big data and biotechnology.
It announced the creation of a new medical journal focused on digital health on Monday and hosted a healthcare venture capital gathering in downtown Rochester on Wednesday.

This was followed by an afternoon tweet from Mary Grove, managing partner at Bread and Butter Ventures, an “early-stage VC firm” based in Minnesota, calling health tech one of three key areas. It is listed as

The Mayo Clinic did not respond to requests for additional information about the event in time for this article.
The new medical journal is called Mayo Clinic Proceedings: Digital Health.will take the lead
Dr. Francisco Lopez Jimenez, M.D.
He is co-director of artificial intelligence (AI) in cardiology and chair of the Department of Preventive Cardiology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, according to a press release dated Oct. 17.
“Mobile technology, smart electronic medical records, platform care, artificial intelligence, and many other advancements in digital health,” Lopez-Jimenez said in a statement.
“My vision for Mayo Clinic Proceedings: Digital Health is to give researchers, clinicians, and innovators an immersive experience using traditional scientific reporting formats and vignettes, use cases, and video articles.”
A digital-only, peer-reviewed journal, the publication is committed to presenting scientific information in a variety of formats, including case studies, ‘example implementations’ and ‘disruptive methods’.
Topics covered include AI and machine learning, telemedicine, electronic medical records, “platform care”, wearables, “research methodological innovations in digital health”, regulatory issues, ethics, health equity and commercialization. .
