CREVE COEUR — The kosher deli that replaced Cohn’s Kosher Deli has closed as it prepares to move to Clayton.
Nate’s Kosher Deli, the area’s last traditional kosher deli, is facing a lawsuit accusing Cone’s owners of failing to pay nearly $150,000 in sales and shipping fees since the beginning of the year. After closing in July, it opened in a store in Creve Coeur.
Nate’s Kosher Deli is owned by Avi Rosenberg and provides butcher and deli services. The business temporarily operated out of the former Kohn’s store at 10405 Old Olive Street Road as Rosenberg looked for a permanent location. Nate opened in August. Our last day at Creve Coeur was December 15th.

Rosenberg has not announced an opening date at Creighton.
Nate’s butcher Mario Smith, who previously worked for Cohn’s, said business at Nate’s was good when Cohn’s was open, but “it’s not what it used to be.”
But Smith expects traffic will improve once Nate’s moves to Clayton. He said St. Louis needs a kosher butcher.
“Who’s going to feed everyone?” said Smith. “Nobody practices kosher like Mr. Cohn and Mr. Nate.”
Over the summer, Midtown Distribution LLC, an Illinois-based food distribution company, sued Mr. Cohn’s company, Bake Cornes LLC, over unpaid bills. One of the company’s members, Yehuda Kestenbaum, was also named in the lawsuit.
Midtown Distribution and Bake Corns LLC have reached an apparent settlement agreement, according to court documents in November.
Neither attorneys for Midtown Distribution LLC nor Kestenbaum immediately responded to requests for comment.
