New human case of West Nile virus confirmed in Marion County

The Florida Department of Health has confirmed a new locally acquired case of West Nile virus in Marion County. According to the DOH, this brings the total number of infections since July to four. West Nile virus is usually spread by mosquitoes. Symptoms of West Nile virus include headache, fever, aches, and fatigue. The bite lasts from 2 to 12 days after the bite. In Orange County, leaders began aerial spraying to control mosquitoes after West Nile virus was detected in several areas.
