BERLIN, Md. — A nonprofit receives grants to expand behavioral health services for those in need in Worcester County.
Worcester You & Family Counseling Services will receive $225,000 over three years in a new partnership with CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield.
Funding allows nonprofits to hire additional mental health professionals to specifically address the service needs of marginalized groups, such as youth of color and self-identifying LGBTQ+ youth. increase.
Executive Director Dr. Jennifer Leggour said the pandemic has highlighted the need for more community mental health services.
Dr. Leggour adds that most of the cases they see involve clients battling depression, anxiety, and more. “Right now there are about 100 people waiting for treatment. With the changes, the issues presented and the severity, we are really trying to find a way to solve the issues and get more providers here.” ‘he said Dr. Leggour.
“We are not only trying to recruit more professionals, but we are also trying to take care of the professionals here to be healthy and fit. can help.”
Funds will also be used to support a wellness room for its additional staff and a first-ever internship program.
The nonprofit was one of 19 winners and part of a massive $7.9 million investment from CareFirst to improve the behavioral health of young people in the Mid-Atlantic region .
