The Defense Health Agency has launched a new feature that allows you to request prescription refills through MHS GENESIS. MHS GENESIS is the Department of Defense’s new electronic medical record. It is currently used in all military hospitals and clinics around the world.
Prescription refills are MHS GENESIS Patient Portal In the first week, the military health system processed nearly 30,000 refills using portal requests.
This new capability within MHS GENESIS is what our beneficiaries have been asking for,” said U.S. Public Health Service Lt. Col. Minh Doan, Patient Portal Solutions Owner at DHA. “This is another tool for beneficiaries to take control of their health care.”
You can now easily refill your prescriptions by selecting the “Rx Refills” tab in the top right panel of the portal’s home page.
Through the MHS GENESIS Patient Portal, you will be able to:
- View all refillable prescriptions.
- Please select what you want to refill.
- Select the location where you would like to receive your refill.
- Find out when your prescription will be ready for pickup.
This is an example of how DHA is working to meet patients where they are, making access to care more convenient,” Doan added.
The new feature will apply to existing prescriptions that have remaining refills, said U.S. Navy Capt. Angie Krinsky, deputy principal, MHS GENESIS Pharmacy Solutions Owner.
The system determines a prescription is ready to be refilled when 75% of the previous prescription is completed, Krinsky said. You will not be able to refill your prescription until then.
If you don’t have any refills left on your prescription, or if you need the medicine even though it’s expired, you need to renew it. You can request updates using the MHS GENESIS secure messaging feature. You may need to speak to your health care provider first before renewing your prescription.
