Newswise — Washington, DC — Today, the American Association of Neurosurgeons (AANS) and the Congress of Neurosurgeons (CNS) Legislative and regulatory agenda for 2023This includes health policy action items that neurosurgeons plan to move forward with Congress and the Biden administration. The Neurosurgical Society pursues the following priorities:

  • Protect timely access to patient care By reforming preapproval and repealing Medicare’s Good Use Criteria Program for Advanced Imaging.
  • Support quality resident training and education By increasing the number of Medicare-funded residency jobs, preserving surgeon competence, and maximizing education and training opportunities within the profession’s current regulatory structure.
  • Champion Fair Refund By improving Medicare’s physician payment system — including providing annual inflation payment updates and improving value-based care programs — no surprise method Implement a fair process for resolving provider and health insurance payment disputes, permanently expand the flexibility of telemedicine, and close the payment gap between Medicaid and private insurers to close the gap in care. reduce access to
  • Improve competition in the healthcare system By increasing scrutiny of hospital and other health care integration, removing restrictions on physician ownership of hospitals and other ancillary services, establishing network adequacy standards, and expanding health insurance coverage options. .
  • fix a broken medical accountability system By adopting proven reforms in place in California and Texas and other innovative solutions.
  • Reduce the burden of electronic medical records (EHR) Enable interoperability, prevent data blockage, reduce unnecessary data entry, and improve the functionality of EHR systems to enhance, not impede, healthcare delivery.
  • Continuing Advances in Medical Innovation Pioneering medical technology and life-saving treatments by prioritizing funding for the National Institutes of Health, streamlining the Food and Drug Administration approval process, and expanding Medicare coverage of new technologies.
