Navy updates exercise standards for Fitness Enhancement Program

The Navy does not require some sailors to undergo a physical fitness program if they do not pass the Navy’s body composition assessment portion of the physical fitness assessment.

Starting next year, sailors who do not meet BCA standards but score Excellent-Low or higher on the Physical Readiness Test (complete the push-up, forearm plank, and aerobic portions of the test) will undergo a fitness enhancement program. is exempted. “The purpose of this exemption is to recognize that some sailors who do not meet BCA standards can still maintain operational readiness,” NAVADMIN said.

Waivers must complete nutrition education programs such as the Navy’s official weight management program known as ShipShape and the nutrition self-study course found on the official Navy PFA app.

Other approved nutrition programs include the Mission Nutrition Course, offered at the Navy Fitness Center, and the Navy Operational Fitness and Refueling System, which offers personalized meal plans.

The Command Fitness Leader (CFL) is responsible for overseeing Sailors’ enrollment in these nutrition programs in the Physical Readiness Information Management System.

“If a nutrition education option is selected, the seafarer must notify the CFL of which option has been selected and provide proof of completion or progress within 30 days of nutrition registration,” NAVADMIN stated. Ta. “A completed education option is only valid for one PFA cycle.”

Historically, those who fail part of the PFA have been required to undergo a fitness enrichment program, and seafarers are required to receive nutrition education as well as additional fitness sessions.
