Mr. McCurry captivated his audience by digging into the historical roots of American medicine and connecting them with modern complexities. Mr. McCurry, a distinguished graduate of Bucknell University, Jefferson Medical College, and Harvard School of Public Health, shared his perspective on healthcare transformation. His background includes surgical training at Georgetown University and subspecialty training at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, making him a stalwart in the field.
Mr. McCurry is a member of the National Academy of Medicine and a former leader of the World Health Organization, where he has worked to reshape health care. Currently a professor and chair of islet transplant surgery at Johns Hopkins University, he is a leader in the “redesigning of health care” to make it more reliable, better, and more affordable, especially for vulnerable populations. Mr. McCurry has published more than 250 peer-reviewed scientific papers and two New York Times bestselling books, and has spoken out extensively on the appropriateness of care, evaluation of new medical interventions, and health care costs.
