Margaret Simpson is the proud founder and owner of White Cedar Remedies, a line of all-natural, handcrafted body care products for pain relief and skin care.
Margaret Simpson, also known as the Cedar Medicine Woman, has a deep passion for supporting people’s health and wellness needs. She has studied a wide range of complementary and alternative medicines, from aromatherapy to reflexology, and is a firm believer in the healing power of naturopathy.
Simpson is the proud founder and owner of White Cedar Remedies, a line of all-natural, handmade body care products for pain relief and skin care.
The first product Simpson developed was a topical pain reliever that was successfully sold in numerous stores for 12 years.
Following the success of her topical pain reliever, Simpson decided to develop a second line of skin care products, which she called “Wha-Bonga-La,” a term coined by Simpson that means “great skin care.”
Simpson founded White Cedar Remedies and runs a home-based health and wellness studio, Cedar Medicine Woman Wellness Studio, in Thunder Bay’s east end, which offers a range of wellness services, including reflexology, cupping therapy and ionic foot bath detox sessions.
Simpson was born and raised in Toronto. In 2006, she moved to Thunder Bay to attend Confederation College where she studied Indigenous Law and Advocacy. In her free time, she immersed herself in Indigenous culture and lifestyle. After graduating, Simpson continued to explore traditional healing practices.
The origins of White Cedar Remedy date back to Simpson’s visit to Pik River Heron Bay Healing Centre in the mid-2000s, where a fascinating local elder gave her the spiritual name “Cedar Medicine Woman”.
After attending several sweat lodges, a health worker trained her to work with cedar wood to create something that could help people suffering from pain.
“Cedar is known as the tree of life,” Simpson says. “It has many health benefits.”
Shortly after he began working with cedar trees, Simpson developed the “White Cedar Remedy” which is a huge success today.
Initially, Simpson’s primary goal was to help people in pain while detoxing from substance abuse, and the positive feedback she received led to the method being widely adopted.
Her family and friends began using the cream for a variety of pain conditions and discovered that it helped relieve pain, so she continued to refine the formula.
While developing White Cedar Therapy, she lived in Cobourg and cared for her elderly parents, both of whom benefited from White Cedar Therapy: her father had post-polio syndrome and her mother had generalized contractions due to Alzheimer’s disease.
White Cedar Remedies began its business in 2012 when Mr Simpson undertook an entrepreneurship course through Northumberland Community Futures Development Corporation.
After completing the course, White Cedar Remedies’ business plan was successfully implemented and has been thriving ever since.
Simpson has always wanted to help people seeking natural healing, and she loves knowing her products are helping people relieve pain and live healthier lives.
She enjoys organizing pop-up demonstrations in stores that sell her products because it allows her to engage with the community and meet different people.
“We live in a fast-paced society,” Simpson said, “and now is the time to slow down and enjoy the peace and quiet that Mother Earth has to offer us.”
It gives her great joy to hear positive feedback from people from all walks of life who are benefiting from the amazing product she has worked so hard to create.
Although there was some initial skepticism, the overall response has been overwhelmingly positive. People’s perspective has changed since they started using the product. Customers have reported that the product has effectively helped them relieve and manage their pain.
The new skin care cream has created a great buzz in the market and sales are soaring.
As White Cedar Remedies continues to enjoy success, Simpson hopes people will realize that the products are 100% natural, handcrafted in Canada, affordable and have the added benefit of enriching their lives with health benefits.
“We want to thank all our customers for their support and positive feedback,” Simpson said. “We’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the local businesses that carry White Cedar Remedy.”
White Cedar Remedies plans to expand nationally, selling its products across Canada. Additionally, the company plans to host pop-up demos and markets throughout the Thunder Bay area.
As White Cedar Remedies continues to expand, Simpson is excited about the future and what’s to come.
“Live life to the fullest every day,” Simpson said.
