Whether it’s cold or cold, you should never stop eating a few scoops of ice cream. The United States celebrates National Ice Cream Day on the third Sunday of July each year, and it’s a good reason to enjoy the popular frozen dessert. Going out for ice cream might be a tempting idea, but why not treat yourself and your family to homemade ice cream? To help with healthy ice cream recipes, Health Shots reached out to Sneha Sanjay, a senior executive and nutritionist at Cloudnine Hospital Group in Jayanagar, Bangalore.

Ice cream is a delicious dessert made mainly of milk, cream, sugar and various flavors and colors. Here are some ice cream recipes you won’t regret eating.

1. Coconut ice cream

material



• Fresh grated coconut – 1 cup
• Fresh coconut cream or thickened coconut milk – 2 cups
• Honey – 3/4 cup

Method



• Grate only the white part of the coconut.
• Roast over low heat until slightly golden in color, but don’t wait until brown.
• Using a hand blender, blend honey with coconut cream or thick coconut milk until stiff peaks form.
• Add grated coconut, mix well and pour this mixture into a bowl.
• Store in freezer for 6-8 hours before serving.

Coconut not only promotes gut health, but also improves skin texture and hair health, says Sneha.

2. Vanilla cashew ice cream

material

• Fresh whipping cream – 1 cup
• Cashew nuts – 150 grams
• brown sugar – 100 grams
• vanilla bean – 2 grams

Method

• Whip the heavy cream for 2-4 minutes.
• Add vanilla bean extract and mix again.
• Crystallize brown sugar and add cashew nuts.
• Allow to cool before chopping.
• Add this caramelized cashew to the heavy cream.
• Mix all ingredients well and place in freezer overnight.
• Add roasted cashew nuts when serving.

Experts say cashews are a superfood for glowing skin, and vanilla is rich in healing antioxidants.

3. Chocolate almond avocado ice cream

material

• Almond milk – 1 cup
Roasted almonds – 75 grams
• Well ripe avocado – 1 piece
• Condensed milk – 100 ml
• Melted dark chocolate – 100 ml

Method

• Roast the almonds, cool and coarsely chop.
• Add almond milk and condensed milk to a bowl. Mix using a hand blender until thickened.
• Add avocado and mix until a smooth puree is obtained.
• Add roasted and chopped almonds.
• Pour this mixture into small ice cream molds and freeze for 8 hours.
• Dip these in melted chocolate and freeze for an additional hour to serve chilled.

Avocados are rich in calcium, which helps control blood sugar levels and promotes bone health, says Sneha.

4. Guava Chili Ice Cream

material

• Pink Guava – 2
• Fresh cream – 100ml
• Palm sugar – 4 spoons
• Red chilli powder – 1 spoon

Method

• Cut open the top of the guava and scoop out the pulp.
・Put this pulp in a mixer and filter.
• Once the guava puree is ready, add fresh cream and palm sugar and mix.
• Pour this mixture into the hollow guava.
• Sprinkle with red chili powder and freeze for 6-8 hours.

Experts say guava has immune-boosting effects, helps relieve constipation, and helps maintain blood sugar levels.

Enjoy the guilt-free taste of ice cream once you’re done making it.
