huntington west virginia. (WSAZ) – As part of National Drug Take-Back Day, various organizations around Cabell County have set up drop-off locations to help people return their prescription drugs in a safe and efficient manner.
According to the latest data from the CDC, more than 5,000 people died in Ohio in 2222, more than 2,200 in Kentucky and West Virginia…more than 1,300. The Mountain state has the worst death rate in the country, with nearly 81 deaths per 100,000 people.
The Cabell County Sheriff’s Office and Huntington Police Department have partnered with the Prevention Empowerment Partnership to help ensure prescription drugs are disposed of in a safe manner.
“These are prescription drugs so you can give them away and you don’t have to keep them,” said Tasha Hall of the Prevention Empowerment Partnership.
There are three table locations set up in Cabell County and HPD has a drop box available any time during normal business hours.
Monis Ali, a pharmacy student who collaborated with the event, said, “Reducing prescriptions that patients don’t need is very important not only for their health but also for the people around them.” Children stop getting them. Individuals who do not need this prescription will not be able to obtain it, and patients who do not need it will also be unable to obtain it. ”
At the end of the day, HPD said, the box filled with prescription drugs is sealed and taken back to the station.
They said prescription drugs would eventually be thrown away.
