After a year of research into the gap between mental and behavioral health care, research reporter Rebecca Lindstrom chairs Saturday’s Walk to raise awareness.
ATLANTA — About three years ago, as an investigative reporter for 11Alive, I began investigating gaps in Georgia’s mental and behavioral health systems leading to child abandonment.
What I found was an alphabet soup of state institutions, financial restrictions, and a lack of equality in mental health. Nami Georgia Help families navigate turmoil and fight for change. NAMI stands for National Alliance on Mental Illness.
11Alive’s investigation led to over a dozen stories in a series called #Keeping.
The title embodies the hopes of the parents we meet on our journey who are fighting to keep their children home. keep kids safe. keep their children alive. I am joining him at NAMIWalks Your Way 2022 on behalf of the parents who have had the courage to share their stories and all other families who are following in the same footsteps.

This event will raise funds for NAMI’s free and highly rated programs at a time when NAMI needs it most. Lawmakers have declared 2022 to be the year of mental health. However, attention to this issue only revealed all the work that had not yet been done.
