After a catastrophic injury, the Nashville man Avoid chiropractors.
last year, Tyler Stanton I endured the “worst pain I’ve experienced in my life,” hospitalization and the beginning of an ongoing struggle that he couldn’t work.
And he says it all started right after the chiropractor cracked his neck – and something came out.
On the eve of her 33rd birthday last June, Stanton said she visited 950 locations at chiropractic chain The Joint nationwide.
After adjusting Stanton’s back, the chiropractor moved to his neck.
“It was the first time I didn’t crack,” he said in January’s video with 3.6 million views. “The second time he tried to crack my neck, he put a lot of force behind it and I heard one huge, painful pop. I quickly found out something was wrong.”

He was taken to hospital, where he was diagnosed with a herniated disc between the C5 and C6 vertebrae in his neck. Due to the acute pain he was experiencing, he stayed in the hospital for several weeks.
“They gave me an epidural injection into my spine and they didn’t even dent in the pain,” he said.
Ultimately, the doctor gave him two options: spinal fusion therapy or physical therapy to manage his discomfort.
Fearing the outcome of the surgery, Stanton chose PT.
“I have a painkiller pharmacy and I can move to the right side of my body and feel it to help my nerves stop getting inflamed. Essentially, I had to go home and lie down for another two months.”
Unable to work, Stanton burns his savings and recovers six months later, only to begin regaining his senses in his right arm.
“I’m still dealing with pain. I’m still limited what I can do physically. It’s destroyed me. Mentally, financially, physically, that’s everything.”
With limited mobility and medical costs being installed, Stanton is consulting with an attorney to consider legal action.
“I’ve driven my whole life a little bit in a night so I feel like I have no other options,” he said.
The joint has not responded to requests for comment.
Chiropractic risks
Chiropractors who treat neuromuscular disorders through manual adjustment or manipulation of the spine have long been controversial. They don’t attend medical school, so they have a doctorate with a chiropractic degree rather than an MDS.
Advocates say chiropractors can help relieve pain, but many doctors have described the field as pseudo science, warning that it can actually lead to serious problems.

Stanton hopes that his story will serve as a warning to others.
