Warnings have been issued against so-called “miracle” fat-burning jabs Ozempic and Wigoby after 3,000 Brits have fallen ill so far this year.
The most common symptoms were stomach problems, but some people also experienced blurred vision, depression, and dizziness. Four deaths were also reported to be drug-related.
In 2023, around 30 complaints of side effects were sent to the Medicines and Healthcare Agency every week.
The first 20 weeks of this year saw a significant spike in complaints of side effects under the agency’s yellow card system, which requires patients and health professionals to submit reports of adverse reactions to medicines.
Figures obtained by The Sun reveal that the agency has received 2,780 complaints so far this year.
This increase may be due to the increasing popularity of medications for weight loss purposes and the ease with which they can be purchased online.

Lottie Moss, 26, model and half-sister of Kate Moss, suffered a seizure after taking a high dose, and Stephen Fry, 67, had to stop taking it after vomiting.
Chef Nigella Lawson told the New York Time: I once read someone say, “It was the first time I didn’t think about food the whole time I was at Ozempic.” It’s time.’ And I thought, I can’t imagine anything worse. I always have so much fun thinking about food. ”
This drug contains semaglutide, an amino acid that suppresses appetite by mimicking the hormone that tells the brain that you’re full.
The jab was approved by the NHS last year and is called Wegovy for overweight people to take to lose fat. For people suffering from type 2 diabetes, it is called Ozempic.
Tam Fry of the National Obesity Forum told The Sun: “For some people, the benefits of semaglutide may far outweigh its risks, but the drug does have side effects.”
“Doctors and GPs should therefore always monitor people taking the jab for weight loss, and they should never take the jab without a prescription.”
“Suicidal tendencies are a potential risk, so anyone considering using this drug without permission should stop.”
The drug’s manufacturer, Novo Nordisk, said: “We recommend that patients take these drugs for approved indications and under the supervision of a healthcare professional.”
This was announced last month after new data showed semaglutide could reduce the risk of death from all causes by up to a quarter.
Lottie Moss, 26, model and half-sister of Kate Moss, suffered a seizure after taking a high dose of the drug.
Stephen Fry, 67, had to stop taking weight loss medication due to vomiting.
Researchers at Harvard Medical School in the US showed that obese and overweight people who received semaglutide were 23% less likely to die overall over the following three years.
Meanwhile, another study led by Australian researchers showed that diabetics who took the drug for just two months were 29 percent less likely to die from a heart attack or stroke.
Latest research has proven that the fat-destroying jab has a protective effect, but scientists have not been able to pinpoint exactly why.
While jabs generally help patients lose weight and improve their health, experts say this does not fully explain the reduced risk of early death.
