History was made at the weekend’s prestigious International Strongman competition, where the Canadian flag was hoisted atop the podium.
Mitchell “Moose” Hooper, from Barry, Ontario, was named World’s Strongest Man (WSM) on Sunday, April 23, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Hooper defeated nine other competitors from the United States, Ukraine, South Africa, Great Britain and Australia in a hard-fought final. He is also the first Canadian to be named Strongest Man Alive in his 46-year history of the event.
Hooper racked up a total of 53.5 points across six events at the WSM Finals, including the Reign Total Body Fuel Shield Carry, Knaack Deadlift, Fingal’s Fingers, Max Dumbbell, Bus Pull and the iconic Atlas Stones.
In an Instagram story posted by Reign Body Fuel, the University of Guelph alum said it was “more heart than matter.”
Hooper has been busy and successful on the Strongman competition circuit for the past two years. His titles include 2022 Arnold Strongman Classic UK, 2022 Giants Live World Tour Finals, 2023 Australian Strong International 1st Place, 2023 Arnold Strongman Classic and 2023 WSM.
