SEATTLE — America’s Heart Month is coming to an end, but medical experts are encouraging people to take care of their heart health.
of American Heart Association (AHA) We recommend that adults do at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity per week or 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity aerobic activity per week.
The recommended length of time may seem daunting to some, especially those with busy schedules or lack of access to training equipment.
Cam Pizzica, head trainer orangetheory fitness At Mill Creek, I said don’t be discouraged by the time recommendations.
Pizzica stopped by the KING 5 studio to show me how to do some exercises and increase my strength whether I go to the gym or not.
AHA Recommendations for Adults:
- At least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity per week, or at least 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity aerobic activity per week, or a combination of both, preferably spread out over the course of the week.
- Add moderate to high-intensity strength-building activity (such as resistance or weights) at least two days per week.
- Reduce sitting time. Even light intensity activity can offset some of the sedentary risks.
- Get even more benefits when you’re active for at least 300 minutes (5 hours) a week.
- Gradually increase the amount and intensity over time.
In honor of Hear Month, Carla Marie, Seattle Seahawks Game Day host and “Fitness Maniac,” hosted a workout session to raise money for the AHA.
Carla Murray said she called on podcast listeners to attend an event at Orangetheory Fitness in Bellevue.
$300 was raised in one hour and a matching donation was made to the AHA.
