While most of us run out of breath and running isn’t explored as much as it should be, Milind Soman was as fit as Captain Vyom after completing a recent marathon. Talking about his everlasting fitness, which of course requires hard work, Milind has one piece of advice for adults: keep challenging yourself.
For those who don’t know, Milind Soman won a silver medal for India in swimming at the South Asian Games in 1984. When asked what prompted his newfound passion for running, Milind happily replied, “Actually, I didn’t switch. I quit swimming in 1988 and took up running in 2003. The Mumbai Marathon was announced and I got interested, and I haven’t stopped ever since!”
Milind’s philosophy on fitness is simple and basic, yet goes unspoken. “Keep challenging yourself gradually. Start by challenging yourself for a minute and see how many push-ups you can do. Be prepared to challenge yourself; this will motivate you,” he says.
“The fact that you can run without a trainer, nutritionist or other specialist is a testament to the enormous capabilities of the human body,” he adds, emphasizing the importance of personal motivation and the effort it takes to stay healthy. “If someone can do it, so can you.”
Before embarking on a fitness journey to stay healthy, think about why you want to get healthy. Is it because of a job that requires you to be sedentary for long periods of time? Is it because of some physical activity you want to try? Is it for personal reasons?
Speaking about his diet, Milind says he eats almost anything, and doesn’t eat processed or refined foods. “I prefer fresh, home-cooked food,” he says.
