‘He’s such an important player for us that we need him at his best’: Mikel Arteta admits ‘frustrating’ concerns about Emile Smith Lowe’s fitness record at Arsenal increase.
Mikel Arteta has admitted he is concerned about Emile Smith Rowe’s unwell health.
The 22-year-old, who has been plagued with injuries and illnesses in recent months, is out with a sore groin. He suggested surgery.
As the World Cup draws to a close, Arteta said: I am a child who loves to play. It’s the biggest thing in his life. And when he can’t do that, it’s just hard, especially after the series of games and performances he’s done with us in the previous year.
Mikel Arteta expresses concern over Emile Smith Lowe’s injury and absence history
“When he was trying to train, he didn’t feel 100% fit and he wasn’t in pain. This is the main concern and we have to find a solution.
“It’s an ongoing issue. He has some discomfort in his groin and has had no continuity this season.
“We’re trying to help him. He’s a very important player for us, so we need him at his best.
Mikel Arteta says Ben White is fit to play for Brentford despite being left out of the England squad
Ben White was also left out of Gareth Southgate’s final squad before the World Cup. Arteta claimed White was snubbed for selection reasons alone in the Nations League games against Italy and Germany.
“He’s in good shape,” said Arteta ahead of Sunday’s trip to Brentford.
“I think Ben gives a lot of reasons to be chosen.”
