ROBESON COUNTY, N.C. (WBTW) — According to a newly released coroner’s report, Micah Miller’s body was found “face down” and “submerged” 100 feet from several shell casings found on the bank of a Robeson County river where a 30-year-old woman committed suicide in late April.
According to a preliminary summary from the North Carolina Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, Micah had been prescribed anti-anxiety medication two days before she attempted suicide at Lumber River State Park on April 27, the latest in a series of treatments to combat mental health issues, including suicidal thoughts and bipolar disorder.
According to the coroner’s office, three Sig Sauer 9mm shells were found on the riverbank, two with bullets still in them and one spent, and the gun itself was pulled from the water by a magnet about five feet from the shore.
The report, which was not based on an autopsy, said blood tests taken the day after her death showed no drugs or alcohol in her system, and there were no signs of a “physical struggle” near where authorities say the wife of Myrtle Beach pastor John Paul Miller killed herself.
The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office declined to comment Monday, and when reached by News 13 on Tuesday, John Paul confirmed the report on Tuesday but declined to comment.
Micah’s family, including her father Michael and sister Sierra Francis, dispute authorities’ claims that she committed suicide.
Robeson County Coroner Jennifer Altman said Micah’s cause of death was “self-inflicted gunshot wound.”
“Why didn’t they do a full toxicology test? Why didn’t they notice that she had bruising on her hands and defensive wounds and bruising on her other arm?” Michael Francis told NewsNation last month.
The entrance and exit wounds were left just above her ear, 4 1/2 inches from the center of her head.
Micah also had seven tattoos, including the name “John Paul Miller” on his lower right chest.
John Paul is the founder and lead pastor of Solid Rock Church in Market Common. News 13 began investigating the circumstances surrounding Micah’s suicide shortly after allegations of domestic violence emerged, including John Paul admitting to placing multiple GPS trackers in Micah’s car and posting explicit photos of her online.
John Paul has not been charged with any crime. Mika served him with divorce papers on April 25.
On the day of her death, Miller’s family was unable to contact her via photo call or text message. She was last seen alive at 1:33 p.m. in Mullins. Just three hours later, a kayaker called authorities to report finding a body they believed to be Micah’s in the river.
The report also states that according to medical records, Mika was hospitalized twice between 2022 and 2024, with the first hospitalization occurring between Nov. 29 and Dec. 5, 2022, for “suicide precautions due to bipolar disorder type 1” and “recurrent manic episodes,” as well as THC dependency and “dependent personality disorder.”
Micah was readmitted to the therapist’s office from Feb. 7 to Feb. 12 of this year. The report states Micah was also using Delta 8 gummies at the time.
Meanwhile, John Paul Miller is fighting Micah’s family in court over rights to his estate.
Less than a week after Micah’s death, her sister, Sierra Francis, filed paperwork in court to become special administrator of her estate.
On June 5, the couple agreed to hand over some of Mika’s personal belongings to Regina Ward, the Conway attorney who was handling the divorce proceedings for Mika.
