Sophie White is one of 300 qualified mental health and exercise coaches across the country who will be hosting MHEC-Fest on April 20th.
These coaches aim to prioritize their clients’ mental health on equal playing field with their clients’ physical health.
This free event aims to address many people’s concerns about exercise, such as the fear of looking stupid and the cost, and show how exercise can benefit you. .
“My idea is to use my skills as a mental health and exercise coach to teach people the value of exercise, its connection to positive mental health, and how to do it. [attendees] You can use it to improve all areas of your life, just like I do for my clients every day,” said Sophie.
The event begins with a talk from Sophie about her mental health journey and how exercise has helped her.
She also explores the scientific link between mental health and exercise and its benefits for developing confidence, resilience and body appreciation.
Sophie will then lead you through a short, optional workout that aims to be as comprehensive as possible.
“I’m really passionate about building things like safe spaces where people can exercise,” she said.
“This will be a bodyweight-only workout with lots of progressions and setbacks.
“This workout is designed to mentally stimulate and involve anyone. So it gradually gets a little harder, but you can still work through it completely at your own pace. .
“The aim, again, is to help people build a relationship where movement in the body actually has a positive psychological impact.”
Sophie encouraged anyone who doesn’t have a positive affinity for exercise to attend the event, including anyone who has had a bad experience in a gym or classroom.
The event will be held at Bournemouth’s Stourvale Center on April 20th from 12pm to 2pm. It is free, but participants must register in advance.
