The state’s department of mental health resources is a multi-million dollar hall.
Coco5 looked into the shortage that caused a lot of controversy.
“Does these dollars focus on helping people or are they spent on top of bureaucracy, so to speak?” Gov. Kevin Stitt asked earlier this week.
Stitt spoke this week about solutions to a multi-million-dollar budget shortage for Oklahoma’s state of mental health and substance abuse services.
“There are people who need services, so if mental health needs supplements, we’ll support that,” Stitt said.
Department officials announced this week that they are cutting funding for accredited community behavioral clinics until they learn more about their financial position.
The authorities also told COCO 5 that they are committed to uninterrupted services that have not been confirmed to reduce services, adding that they are working with Congress and the administrative department to decide on the next step.
“We’ve been trying to understand what’s going on in the world at the Ministry of Mental Health,” Rep. Kyle Hilbert said.
Lawmakers argued that the shortage was caused by mismanagement in the department, and the committee member responded directly to Stitt.
“Not only is it a bad business for Oklahoma, it is not good for people in Oklahoma, especially those who these healthcare providers serve.
Stitt blames the private vendor for saying he upcharged the department.
But what’s as important as what happened is what we should do about it.
The department called for a $200 million increase in its budget this year.
