Calgary’s Fourth Street Viaduct and Reconciliation Bridge were closed in both directions Wednesday night and through much of Thursday due to what police described on social media as a “mental health crisis.”
The incident ended around 6pm on Thursday as police began to reopen the bridge and overpass lanes.
Police thanked Calgary residents for their patience as they tried to get into and out of downtown.
The incident began around 10 p.m. Wednesday night, and in a news release just before 5 a.m. Thursday, police said there was no danger to the public.

In addition to the Reconciliation Bridge and Fourth Avenue Viaduct being closed, the Fifth Avenue Viaduct was also closed at times to allow police and emergency services to work in the area.
Around 3 p.m., the Fifth Avenue overpass reopened to traffic, allowing commuters to exit downtown onto Memorial Drive, police said.
