- Mariannette Miller-Meeks is the Republican candidate for Iowa’s First Congressional District.
- The incumbent was first elected in 2020.
From an early age I felt called to serve my country, first serving in uniform and now honored to serve as a member of the United States House of Representatives.
Having grown up in a family of eight children by a GED mother and an Air Force Sergeant father, I know what it means to work to make ends meet. I left home at her age of 16, graduated from medical school, worked, entered junior college, joined the U.S. Army, and earned a nursing degree to keep working the night shift.
I went to medical school while working as a nurse. She got married on the way and had two children. After 24 years on active duty and in the Army Reserves, I retired with the rank of lieutenant colonel. I joined the staff at the University of Michigan and then the University of Iowa Department of Ophthalmology. She opened her own private practice in Ottumwa in 1997, became the first female President of the Iowa Medical Society, and served three years as Director of the Iowa Department of Public Health.
It is because of my life experience that I understand why inflation is the greatest source of pain for Iowa families, workers, farmers, and Main Street business people. I know runaway spending by congressional Democrats and President Joe Biden has made inflation worse and many Iowans can’t afford groceries and have difficulty filling their gas tanks every week. Together with my Republican colleagues, I am determined to do something about it.

If elected for a second term, I will end uncontrolled government spending, unleash America’s energy, boost domestic manufacturing, prioritize American innovation, and help the people of Iowa access affordable health care. We will continue our efforts to keep inflation under control by providing access.
Enhancing energy self-sufficiency by expanding the renewable energy sector has been and continues to be one of my top priorities. Using Iowa as a framework, we are committed to proving that clean, renewable energy is possible in any state. Doing so is essential to leaving a cleaner, healthier planet for our children and grandchildren, and less dependence on countries like Russia, Saudi Arabia and Venezuela. We can be energy independent and lower the cost of the fuel that powers our economy and our lives, but we must invest in America’s energy.
I take pride in my service, but I know there is much more to be done. I thank the voters of Iowa’s First Congressional District for their trust in me and ask that I return to Congress to continue working for them. Together, we can ensure that Iowa continues to be a great place to live, work, and raise a family.
