Anxiety is a strange thing. It’s not weird in a funny way, but it’s weird in a terrifying way of, “Am I dying or am I just having an anxiety attack?” Our brains are powerful and capable of triggering physiological responses in our bodies to stress, anxiety, and depression. One of the most annoying and frightening symptoms is palpitations, which can feel like your heart is beating too fast, skipping beats, or twirling in your chest.
When our heart behaves abnormally, making us very aware of its presence, we usually immediately assume that we are having a heart attack. It can lead to additional anxiety and cause more heart beats. It’s a vicious cycle until it stops on its own, either by getting a diagnosis or by trying to get your brain to work harder and forget that five minutes ago your heart was going crazy.
It’s really very interesting to know that the brain has so much power over the actions of the body when it’s just sitting there and being present. But for those experiencing unwanted excitement from anxiety-related palpitations, there are neat tricks to get your heart back to normal.
Jesse Catches I posted a video on TikTok that reveals a unique way to control anxiety-induced heart palpitations. In the video, Kutches played a man who had heart palpitations and a man who apparently called an ambulance because of his heart palpitations, resulting in paramedics teaching him a clever trick.
Before explaining how the trick works, Kutches asks the opponent to put their hands together and blow on them without thumbs up. He said that there is a nerve in the center of the body that controls the heartbeat, and stimulating that nerve tells the heart to calm down. This is attractive and handy to have in your pocket should this symptom occur.
