Man Falls For Insurance Fraud, Loses ₹12 Lakh

NEW DELHI: A man was scammed out of over Rs 1.2 million by fraudsters who claimed that his father, who died of a heart attack in 2020, had insurance policy worth Rs 1.6 million and was asked to make a down payment for his release. It is said that he was killed. The victim, a resident of Uttam Nagar, received a call about what was purported to be his father’s insurance policy. The caller explained that he would need to pay a cancellation fee to access the funds. “The victims were unaware of the policy and got fooled by the ruse. They demanded payment on various pretexts including GST, customer ID generation, maintenance fees, etc.,” the officer said. Victims made multiple payments and received counterfeit copies of funds release documents. Suspicious, he visited the company’s office in Daryaganj and discovered that the documents were fake. Police registered a case and started investigation.

Odisha Police’s criminal branch has arrested eight people, including a woman, for allegedly duping Rs 76 million from a Bhubaneswar-based couple by posing as executives of a private insurance company. The accused belong to Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana and some of them worked in the insurance industry. They collected policyholder data and lured victims into upgrading their policies to higher maturity amounts. The victims transferred more than 7.6 million rupees to the accused before they realized they had been scammed.

The Congress released the manifesto ‘Jan Goshna Patra’ for the state of Rajasthan. The manifesto includes promises of jobs, interest-free loans for farmers and traders, and subsidies for cooking gas. The manifesto promises 1 million jobs, expanded health insurance, interest-free loans to farmers and traders, and increased employment days under NREGA. Congress also promises to lower the price of LPG cylinders and amend gig worker welfare laws. Other initiatives include housing, education, and strengthening old pension systems.

The Congress released a manifesto by Jan Goshna Patra of Rajasthan, which called for jobs, interest-free loans to farmers and traders, subsidy on cooking gas, caste checks like Bihar, and MSP on crops. It includes commitments such as laws that guarantee it. The manifesto promises to expand the scope of Mukyamantri Nishrukh Chiranjeevi Swasthya Bima Yojana and bring in vitro fertilization within its scope. Traders are entitled to receive interest-free credit through the Vyapari Card scheme. Parliament has also promised to increase the number of employment days under NREGA and introduce the Minimum Support Price Guarantee Act based on the recommendations of the Swaminathan Committee. The manifesto also includes amendments to the gig worker welfare law, housing rights law, and strengthening the old pension system. The manifesto is based on the proposals received under Mission 2030, under which CM Gehlot aims to make Rajasthan the top state in terms of per capita income.
