Pastor Joe said, “I know from personal experience that some people find it difficult to admit they need help, let alone ask for it.

In his message, Pastor Joe shared how the idea of ​​conducting a service on mental health began. He recalled talking to a police chief about five years ago and asking him what was the biggest problem he dealt with in law enforcement. The answer was quick and specific — mental health issues.

Since that meeting, Pastor Joe has seen a connection between his role in the church of “helping people” and what is possible on that topic.

Pastor Joe himself is not a medical professional, so he aimed to bring together a group of “professionals” to discuss the different types of help available. Thus began his series on mental health in the church.

Pastor Joe introduced a panel of guests he knew personally. He welcomed the congregation to take time after the service to approach some or all of them for contact information, phone numbers, or prayers.

“You can see that these people are experts in their fields,” Pastor Joe said. “And they are all Christians.”

Serena Taylor, Christina Ravenel, and Christine Burns represented Hope Sanctuary. Under the leadership of Jo Harrison, LPC the Sanctuary practices equine therapy, among other resources.

Craig Gardner of Hearts Renewed Counseling in Harker Heights is now in private practice. His background includes his 22 years of experience in the Army and working in couples and family therapy.

Alton R. McCallum of the Insight Counseling Center in Belton specializes in leadership development, life coaching, parenting relationships, and more.

Pastor Joe concluded the service by reminding us not to dwell on past trauma.
