good morning Welcome to another week of campaigning, with just 24 days left until the general election.
Pledges, Pledges and More Pledges This will be a theme over the coming days as the Conservative, Labour and Liberal Democrat parties are due to publish their manifestos.
(What is a manifesto? Simply put, it is an outline of what a party plans to do if it forms the next government. It is not an absolute promise and can be changed or abandoned. More on this later.)
There’s no pressure.Sir Ed Davey’s party is due to publish its manifesto today with a key pledge to allocate £9 billion to “save the health and care service”.
What about other people? The Conservative manifesto is expected to include a pledge to recruit 8,000 new police officers over the next three years, while Labour’s will also include a pledge to create 100,000 new childcare places.
Elsewhere today, the Conservative Party I want to move the conversation forward Earlier this week, Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak’s decision to withdraw from attending events marking the 80th anniversary of the Normandy landings made headlines over the weekend.
And the Prime Minister will speak to Nick Robinson later today as part of BBC Panorama’s series of leadership interviews.
