Personal trainer Katie Collins has launched her new business, Katie Louisa Wellbeing, after noticing changes in the habits of gym-goers.
The 37-year-old, who became a personal trainer 10 years ago after being laid off from her job as an airline flight attendant, has moved away from offering boot camp classes with a focus on weight loss and is taking a more holistic approach to health. is supported.
She said focusing on her own health helped her overcome the poor mental health she suffered after breaking up with her long-term partner.
“Rather than losing weight, I wanted to focus on helping women with children like me who find it hard to go to the gym and are concerned about their health.” She, the mother of a human child, explained.
“I know a lot of people struggle with their mental health and training, but getting out and exercising really helps. I feel more like a therapist than just a personal trainer now. .”
The Leigh resident also “threw away the scale” because she believes too much focus on weight loss is “not good for people’s mental health”.
The owner, who is originally from Hertfordshire but moved to Leigh 10 years ago, has also partnered with other female entrepreneurs who offer services such as meditation and yoga at the studio.
“A lot of local businesses are pitching in, which is really great,” she said.
“I think a lot of people are focusing on the health side. Two years ago, you wouldn’t have been able to take a meditation class at the gym.”
In her studio above the former home estate agent’s Meredith Clinic beauty salon, Katie offers one-on-one personal training sessions that young people are welcome to join.
Her two children, Harry, 5, and Freddie, 4, are enjoying the new gym and often train alongside their mum.
She added: “I do live training every morning at 6 a.m. and they join in too. They love it. My older son is so used to me training every day that he now trains four times a week. I went boxing twice.”
Despite the studio being “girly and female-focused,” Katie said it “doesn’t turn anyone away.”
