Las Vegas man convicted in opioid prescription scheme using phony pain center

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A 64-year-old Las Vegas man was sentenced Friday for a scheme to distribute “large quantities” of illegally prescribed opioids, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

David A. Litwin conspired with licensed physicians to “sell prescription drugs such as oxycodone, hydrocodone, Xanax, and Soma to people without a legitimate medical purpose,” a news release from the U.S. attorney’s office said Monday. It was announced on .


The eight-day trial concluded on September 22, with Litwin found guilty of conspiracy to distribute oxycodone and seven counts of distribution of oxycodone. U.S. District Judge Kent J. Dawson will preside over the jury trial, with sentencing scheduled for December 21, 2023.

“For several years, Litwin helped operate a medical practice known as New Amsterdam Medical Group that purported to be a pain specialty center. “The suspects were used to sell fake prescriptions to hundreds of people, including multiple individuals who filled prescriptions to illegally sell opioids on the secondary market,” the news release said.

The pain center operated across the street from the middle school at Harmon Avenue and Sandhill Road.

The announcement was made by Jason M. Fryerson, United States Attorney for the District of Nevada, Kevin Adams, Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Las Vegas District, and Special Agent in Charge Spencer L. Evans of the FBI.

This case was investigated by the DEA and FBI. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Nadia Ahmed, Assistant U.S. Attorneys Edward Veronda, and Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jean Ripley.
