One thing Tel Avivians, kosher and non-kosher palates alike, can agree on is that the schnitzel at Kosher Malka (which oozes delicious potato mash as soon as you cut it open) is a culinary masterpiece. And New Yorkers may soon be able to taste it on this side of the Atlantic.
Celebrity chef Eyal Shani is opening an outpost of his popular Israeli restaurant at 161 West 72nd Street off Amsterdam Avenue on the Upper West Side, in the space that previously housed his restaurant North Miznon. It is scheduled to open on March 7th.

Malka, which joins the chef’s list of notable local eateries including Hasalon, Port Said and Shmonnet, is also Shani’s first kosher endeavor in the United States.
Like his other restaurants, Malka’s menu will change seasonally and “showcase the flavors of Israeli cuisine with fresh, locally sourced ingredients,” according to a press release.
In addition to the iconic schnitzel, usually served with sauerkraut, mustard and beetroot relish, new menu items include lamb shank, charred beet carpaccio, okra in red tomatoes and grouper shawarma. , eggplant sashimi and more.
This destination will be closed from Friday night until Saturday night in observance of the Jewish Sabbath. However, during the winter months, the sun sets earlier, marking the end of the Sabbath, making Saturday night reservations possible.
In recognition of the current situation in the Middle East, Malka will donate 10% of its profits through November to humanitarian relief organizations in Israel.
