Katie Melua has revealed that she suffered from acute mental illness when she was in her 20s, and said she feared it would stop her from making music.
The singer, who released his multi-platinum debut album Call Off the Search in 2003, was hospitalized for six weeks in 2010 and was forced to take a break from music.
However, she returned to the charts with her fifth album in 2012 and released her ninth, Love & Money, in 2023.
Melua, 40, said in a new interview on the Origins With Cush Jumbo podcast that he wants to keep making music “until I die.”
When asked if she ever thought about quitting, she replied:
“I was worried what if for some reason I wasn’t allowed to do it or couldn’t do it, but thankfully that didn’t happen at all. It was a savior for me.”
She added, “Honestly, I want to make records until the day I die.”
Melua said she discovered what the “little red flags” were and learned how to better manage herself.
“I remember one of the treatment tools the hospital gave me was to take it one day at a time,” she said.
