Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butler launched a series of attacks on President Biden’s leadership during his recent commencement address, criticizing the president’s policies on abortion, gender ideology and the COVID-19 pandemic.
In his commencement speech last Saturday at Benedictine College, a Catholic liberal arts university in Kansas, Butker said that the negativity in society these days is due to “bad leaders who don’t stay in their lane.” ” was to blame.
“While COVID-19 may have played a major role throughout your formative years, it is not unique,” Butker said in his speech. “Bad policies and poor leadership are having a negative impact on major life issues: abortion, in vitro fertilization, surrogacy, euthanasia, and growing support for corrupt cultural values and media. All of this is due to widespread disorder.”
“Our country is led by someone so delusional that he publicly and proudly proclaims his Catholic faith, yet at the same time makes the sign of the cross at pro-abortion rallies,” he continued.
Biden is the second Catholic U.S. president and must balance the high-profile issue of abortion with the Democratic Party’s support for reproductive rights.
The president frequently attends Saturday night services with his family near his home in Wilmington, Delaware, or in Washington, D.C., and the White House maintains that Biden’s faith is personal.
Biden said he is not very pro-abortion, but openly supports reproductive rights, which were previously recognized in Roe v. Wade.
He hasn’t shied away from criticizing Republican leaders and states that have moved to restrict access to medical treatment. His support for abortion access has led to calls for the church not to offer him Holy Communion.
Butker’s comments were clearly alluding to what Biden was saying at the time. gestured to the sign of the cross last month during a rally against abortion restrictions.
“He’s been very vocal about his support for the murder of innocent infants, and I’m sure that for many people it seems like they have a choice between being Catholic and being pro-choice,” Butker added. Ta. “He is not alone. From those leading the coronavirus lockdowns to those pushing dangerous gender ideologies on America’s youth, they all have one thing in common: They are Catholics. This is an important reminder that just being Catholic doesn’t help.”
The Biden administration has announced a series of protections for the LGBTQ community over the past three years, and the president has not been afraid to attack Republican lawmakers who oppose those policies.
The Hill has reached out to the White House for further comment.
