Jaffery succeeds Janis Orlowski, MD, who retired earlier this year after a respected career serving patients, the healthcare system, and the broader academic medical community. In his new role, he will lead AAMC’s work at the intersection of academic medical centers and the health care delivery system, with a focus on innovation to improve care. With a mission to enable teaching hospitals to provide access to high-value, high-quality patient care, sustain their academic mission, and remain financially stable, the Chief Medical Officer has set forth AAMC Work closely with member agencies, federal agencies, and members of affiliated organizations. .

Jaffrey He previously served as Chief Medical Officer for Wisconsin’s Medicaid program and was a 2010-11 Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health Policy Fellow, where he worked on a variety of issues related to delivery systems and payment reform on the Senate Finance Committee. . He is a board-certified nephrologist, a member of several professional organizations, including the American College of Physicians Leaders and the American Society of Nephrology, and a Fellow of the American Medical Association. Since 2018, Jonathan has served as Commissioner of the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC).

Jaffery received his medical degree from The Ohio State University School of Medicine and completed a residency and fellowship at the University of Vermont Medical Center. He holds graduate degrees from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health and the University of Southern California Marshall School of Business.
