Another Fourth of July means the hot dog-eating race is on again, burning tons of calories.
Each year at Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest on Coney Island in Brooklyn, New York, participants prepare to put away an astonishing number of hot dogs.

The women’s record is 48.5 for hot dogs and buns, held by eight-time champion Miki Sudo.

How many calories does Joey Chestnut burn?
According to Nathan’s Nutrition Facts label, there are 170 calories per Beef Flank and 130 calories per Nathan’s Restaurant Style Bun.
So, compared to the 63 hot dogs and buns Chestnut ate last year, Frank added 10,710 calories and the buns added another 8,190 calories for a total of 18,900 calories. That’s almost six times the recommended daily average for a man of his age and build.
In a record year of eating 76 hot dogs and buns, he ate a whopping 22,800 total calories.
Nathan’s Beef Flank also contains 16 grams of total fat and 640 milligrams of sodium per dog. So one hot dog makes up about 25% of his recommended daily intake and his 27%.
Last year, 63 flanks were consumed, equivalent to 1,008 grams and 40,320 milligrams of total chestnut fat and sodium, respectively.
