First lady Jill Biden told Green Bay seniors on Thursday that former President Donald Trump would make cuts to Social Security and Medicare if re-elected.
The event was part of a kickoff effort by President Joe Biden’s campaign to engage with seniors and contrast his policies with those of President Trump.
Addressing the group at the Brown County Library, the first lady said Biden wants to preserve Social Security, Medicare and the Affordable Care Act and cast Trump as a threat to those systems.

“Donald Trump supported the repeal of Medicare as we know it,” Jill Biden said. “He 1 vote difference “Repealing the Affordable Care Act would raise drug prices by hundreds of dollars a year.”
She also said the Biden administration’s efforts have lowered prescription drug prices for seniors and made health insurance available to more people.
“For the first time in history, the president has allowed Medicare to negotiate drug prices directly, something previous presidents have tried to do for decades,” the first lady said. “He has strengthened Obamacare and Medicaid, and we have achieved the lowest uninsured rate of any president.”

The Trump campaign said those comments were about “cutting waste,” and the former president has since said he would do nothing to jeopardize those programs.
During her visit to Green Bay, Jill Biden also addressed her husband’s age, a point of contention for voters on both sides of the aisle.
“This election is not about age,” she said. “Joe and that guy are essentially the same age. Don’t be fooled. This election is about the character of who leads our country.”
In May, a New York jury convicted Trump of 34 felony counts related to falsifying business records in a scheme to illegally influence the 2016 election through hush money payments to adult film stars, making him the first former president to be convicted.
Hunter Biden, the son of the current president He was convicted this week. He was indicted on three felony charges related to lying about a drug addiction when purchasing a revolver in 2018.
In a statement, Matt Fischer, a spokesman for the Wisconsin Republican Party, criticized the visit, saying Biden administration policies have led to higher food and health care costs.
“Seniors are tired of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’ failed policies,” Fischer said. “Wisconsinites know that better days await with Republican leadership back in the White House this November.”
Jill Biden last visited Green Bay in February to promote the Biden administration’s education policies. Her Thursday visit came a little more than a week after Donald Trump Jr. attended a rally for a Green Bay-area congressional candidate supported by his father.
Both President Trump and President Biden made stops in Wisconsin last month, with President Trump attending a rally in Waukesha and President Biden helping Microsoft unveil a $3 billion-plus development in Mount Pleasant. President Trump is scheduled to visit Racine next week.
