Jennifer Aniston is famous for her toned physique, but the “Friends” superstar says she struggles with the key components of a healthy lifestyle.
In an interview with allurethe 55-year-old actress admitted on Friday that she has struggled with sleep for more than a decade.
“Sleep and I have a really difficult relationship,” she said. “I really want to love it and I definitely want to love it. But we’ve had a hard time, especially the last 10, 15 years.”
The actress stopped short of saying that she suffers from insomnia, which affects up to 30 percent of Americans, according to the National Institutes of Health.
But with so much information flowing into smartphones, she said they can last until the early hours of the morning, affecting her sleep.
“It’s hard to shut down your brain, and it’s hard to tell a committee to stop speaking,” she asserted. “I had to turn off the news. I had to set boundaries for myself around information. You know what I mean?”
“Our bodies and brains aren’t designed to take in this much information,” the “Morning Show” star said. “They’re not like that. They used to have TV and radio and that was it.”
“I turned on the news at 6 o’clock and that and the morning paper were everything,” the Golden Globe winner continued. “You can live a glorious life as long as your cortisol levels don’t go through the roof and your anxiety doesn’t get out of control. That’s too much. This is not normal.”
Aniston revealed that as part of her relaxing routine, she turns off her phone two hours before midnight and goes to bed with only her thoughts in mind.
“I stretch before I go to bed. I’ve been serious about sleep hygiene, and I hate that word,” she explained to the outlet. “I can’t stand ‘sleep hygiene.’ I’ve worked hard to get into bed at 10pm on weekdays, turn off everything, and sit there waiting for the world to fall apart.
But the “Just Do It” beauty says she tries not to beat herself up if she doesn’t get a break right away.
“Some days it’s great and on point and other days it’s not so great. I try not to be so hard on myself because the world is so mean and so aggressive and negative right now. So why do we do this to ourselves?”
Aniston also said that she strives to have a healthy relationship with her body, saying, “We truly love each other.”
“We have to love our bodies and do the best we can. It’s been with us since the day we started, so we can’t be too harsh on it,” she elaborated. I explained.
“Of course, we all get older, but how can we grow as we get older?” thought the star. “And it’s about giving your body the attention it deserves. Personally, I loved my 30s, but my 20s were nothing. I was a nightmare. Getting into my 30s, 40s. I didn’t understand what working out was until then.
