Jack Farlow’s name will not be displayed on the CrossFit Open Leaderboard this year. The 2023 CrossFit Games veteran announced he would not sign up for the CrossFit Open this year. He shared the news yesterday in an Instagram post and said he is looking forward to other competitive opportunities in 2025.
The news comes days after Farrow’s girlfriend Emma Lawson said she wouldn’t compete in the open. However, Lawson is sitting due to a back injury, but Farrow shows that his decision is based on having to balance his school’s commitment and competitive schedule.
As many may not know, Farrow is not a full-time athlete. Farrow is a student at the University of Waterloo and studies biomedical engineering.
For this reason, Farrow told Barbell Spin that it would be extremely difficult to balance school responsibilities and would compete three times in May. Therefore, he decided to narrow down the focus of the competition this year.
“I’m picking and choosing what I’m competing based on what I’m most excited about and what I think will set me best next year,” Farrow told Barbell Spin.
The focus is on the World Fitness Project. Farrow is not one of 20 signed male athletes, but he is on the challenger path. Farlow was the first to register WFP Online Qualifications (Like me) The goal is to score enough points this season to win the 2026 Pro Card.
The WFP online qualifiers will be held from March 19th to 25th. The top 30 athletes in the online qualifying round will be invited to compete in WFP Tour Event 1 in Indianapolis, Indiana from May 9-11.
It is also possible that Farrow will compete again at High Rocks. In October, Farrow and Lawson competed in the Toronto High Rocks’ Mixed Doubles category. The couple finished second in the 16-29 age group category and competed in the 2025 High Rocks World Championships in June.
However, Farlow will not compete in CrossFit Open, thus eliminating the opportunity to qualify for CrossFit games (qualifying for all games must finish at the top 1% of the open to receive an invitation regardless of the qualifying method), Farlow will compete in Mayhem Classic in April.
Farlow was one of the athletes who accepted the invitation to compete at Mayhem Classic, one of the in-person qualifying events for the 2025 CrossFit game. The top two men and women will receive an invitation to compete in the CrossFit game. If Farlow wins the top two spots in Mayhem Classic, The Invite will go to the athletes in third place.
Farlow has been enrolled in the CrossFit Open every year since 2017, participating in the teenage boy ages 14-15 category. Farlow has qualified for the CrossFit game twice. Once in the 16-17 teenage boys category in 2019, and once again in 2023 as an elite individual.
